Nowadays,
the appellation contrôlée vineyard region covers 1650
hectares, 226 of which are planted with the Savagnin grape.It lies on a clay bed rock of the Trias (1st period of the second era) and Lias (lowest division of the Jurassic system). Liassic and triassic marls. The Juras wine-growing region offers a distinct diversity which is evident in a mosaic of soil types. The Savagnin grape thrives particularly on blue and black foliated liassic marls which are only found on some of the slopes. It is on these favourite soils that it offers most individuality. Exposure to the South, South West on a 20 to 30° slope also has an important part to play in its quality, as do the rocky faces which reflect the heat of the sun. The blind valleys sheltered from cold winds provide sites which are particularly suited to late maturity. Revermont enjoys a semi-continental climate where the altitude ranges from 200 to 400 metres. The Winter, from December to February, is damp and misty. Hoar frosts from November to May. The Spring, which is often rainy, gives way to a hot, dry Summer. The Autumn is often very beautiful and the saying goes that: "September makes a wine".
